We have observed a milestone change in demographic structure in Census 2021 result. Migration is one of the three components of population change. Both internal and international migration have been equally important and have a significant impact on Nepali lives. In this context, stepping into “school of migration studies” is timely as well as right decision that will have an enormous contribution to make more and more people understand the dynamics of impact of the migration in the contemporary Nepali society.

In a world when the Global Compact on Migration has been adopted, and Nepal’s strong commitment in ensuring safe and dignified migration, the establishment of the School on Migration Studies couldn’t be timelier. As we navigate the opportunities and complexities of migration, it is essential to deepen our understanding, promote awareness, and foster informed policies to ensure that every journey is safe, and every migrant is treated with the dignity they deserve.

I express sincere appreciation to IOM and CDPS faculty for formalizing this partnership. The Migration School offers a valuable opportunity to advance migration research and policy in Nepal. Through knowledge gained and research conducted, we aim to mainstream evidence-based policies, fostering dialogue and sustainable development among government, academia, and practitioners.
